NCUA Vice Chairman Kyle S. Hauptman Statement on the Board Briefing, NCUA’s Modernized Examination Tools
Kyle S. Hauptman

Vice Chairman Kyle S. Hauptman at the NCUA's Headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia.

As Prepared for Delivery on November 18, 2021

Thank you, Kelly and Amber, for your presentation.

I am pleased that NCUA’s Modernized Examination Tools are finally here. Replacing a 25-year-old system is daunting, and I’d like to congratulate the staff and credit unions that helped make that happen.

These new, web-based tools represent a significant advancement forward for the NCUA. They will help the agency better fulfill its mission while at the same time improve efficiency for examiners and credit unions.

MERIT offers credit unions the ability to securely:

  • Transfer files within the context of an examination
  • Provide status updates and request due date changes on examination findings and action items
  • Retrieve completed examination reports

The extensive pilots and resulting adjustments should help smooth the transition between AIRES and MERIT. But we can’t forget that part of any transition process includes change management. I urge credit union and vendors to avail themselves of the many resources available to them.

Mr. Chairman, that concludes my remarks.
